The Best Primer for Oily Skin
My skin has always been on the combination/oily side. Pair that with pores that keep growing in size as I get older and we have a problem. It is a regular struggle to strike a balance between the dewy, glowy skin-focused make-up that I crave and a look that shouts “mop up in aisle 4, please.” However, a chance discovery of Nars’ Pore and Shine primer has really changed the game for me.
Nars’ high quality products and sleek, minimal packaging had always appealed to me, but as a creature of habit, I rarely stray from MAC Cosmetics. However, as I passed through Gatwick’s duty-free the well-stocked Nars counter called to me. I was actually in the market for a new blusher - I settled on Nars’ Exhibit A, a beautiful true Orange blush with buildable colour - but thought I’d enquire about a primer as well.
I described my large pore, high shine concerns with the make-up artist and she immediately pulled out the pore and shine primer. It claims to mattify the skin, allowing for longer lasting make-up and shine control, whilst blurring imperfections such as large pores. I wasn’t immediately sold, having tried a few other primers before hand. However, when she put a drop on the back of my hand, I knew this was the primer for me.
Unlike heavier silicone based primers, the gel cream texture gives the primer a light feel on the skin which sinks right into the skin. You can feel it absorbing the excess oil almost immediately. The primer comes out of the tube as a white liquid but it is largely transparent when applied on the skin. There’s no need to apply a full face after this primer, you can definitely wear it all by itself.
If you have oily/combination skin and/or large pores I would highly recommend this primer. It’s a little bit on the pricey side at £29.00 per tube (30ml) but it is totally worth every penny. So add Nars’ Pore and Shine Primer to your collection and wave goodbye to midday oil slick.
