Two Ways To Style an Oversized Sweatshirt
Featured Sweatshirt - NICCE London Hoodies Womens*
My style has always leaned towards clean, polished and feminine with a twist. Lately, that twist has been in the form of more streetwear inspired pieces. It was high time that I added an oversized varsity sweatshirt into the mix. So how do you style an oversized sweatshirt when you’re more Céline than Supreme? Well honey, grab some snacks because I’m about to break it down.
Despite loving the overall aesthetic, I find that streetwear pieces can sometimes look a bit too masculine on me. Therefore, balance is always key when I'm styling streetwear pieces. Edith Head may have been balancing sexiness and class but, today, I’m balancing femininity and masculinity.
I love playing with proportions to achieve such a balance. For daytime, I off-set the oversized proportions of this NICCE London sweatshirt with a little leg. These Topshop shorts are great because they are a longer length (read: actually cover your ass) and are so, so comfortable.
Anchoring the look with quirky but feminine details also balances out the androgyny of this sweatshirt. I'm a huge fan of mixing in simple but quirky accessories, like this structured bucket bag, for an easy daytime look. Belting up your sweatshirt is also an unexpected styling trick that brings back some femininity to an otherwise oversized silhouette.
The same rules apply for cocktail hour - balance is definitely paramount but you can afford to exaggerate a little more. What’s better to balance out an oversized sweatshirt than ruffles and feathers? These trousers definitely hit that sweet spot between androgyny and femininity with their form-fitting style and fluted detail. Add in some feather heels and a statement earring and show them you really have arrived!
Adding pieces to your wardrobe that are a little out of your comfort zone can always be a little daunting. The most important thing is to wear your clothes and not let them wear you. With small edits, you too can enjoy the streetwear trend and wear that cute sweatshirt you’ve been admiring without going full on hypebae (unless you want to of course).
Which look is your favourite?
